OUR JOURNEY
Dr. Nicole McCauley
OUR MISSION
To provide access to a sustainable program using vertical gardens to address and potentially solve the global battle of food insecurities and food deserts worldwide.
SUPPORTING OUR SENIORS & YOUTH
Our goal is to increase food production through sustainable programs that support a vast number of our seniors citizens and future leaders (our youth).
GIFT OF HEALTH & PROSPERITY
Using aeroponics—the same technology NASA uses—the system grows plants with only water and nutrients rather than dirt. Research has found aeroponic systems grow plants three times faster, produce 30% greater yields on average, and uses a fraction of the water normal gardens use.
SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITIES
This project is an excellent fit for any community. It has the transformative power to create lasting change in any environment. It also encourages, motivates, and inspires community members from all walks of life.
WHY - OUR LANDSCAPE
THE PROBLEM
- 1 billion people are food insecure worldwide.
- 50 million in America with 16 million of those are children who don’t know where their next meal comes from.
- 9 million die per year, which is 24,000 a day, 1,000/hour, 16/second (10 of those are children).
- If hunger were a nation, after China & India, it would be the third-larges.
- By 2050 we will need 70% more food.
- 70% of useable farmland is already being used.
LOCAL IMPACT
CURRENT PROJECT NIXA, MISSOURI
The McCauley Foundation is working directly with John Thomas School of Discovery (magnet school) in Nixa, Missouri, to create the Discovery Gardens. These gardens enable up to 500 students in K-6 to gain hands-on experiential learning by growing plants from seed to harvest. The gardens benefit students’ nutrition through consumption of more fresh fruits and vegetables and benefiting the larger Nixa community through donations of fresh produce to the local food banks.
GLOBAL IMPACT
GLOBAL FOOD INSECURITY
- 1 billion people are food insecure worldwide (9 million die each year).
- If hunger were a nation, after China & India, it would be the third-largest country.
- By 2050 we will need 70% more food.
