FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE
THE RAINING SEASON
JOIN US IN THE SOLUTION
The Covering is a 24-hour orphan care center created to support at-risk and trafficked children sponsored by an organization, The Raining Season (TRS). TRS is developing a self-sustainable agricultural ecosystem called The Dream Center. The Dream Center will generate revenue to employ local workers, feed the children, staff, and community. The children housed at The Dream Center will also have access to 24-hour health care, including midwives for their young mothers. They have access to a football (soccer) field and basketball court provided by the International YMCA and a full universal design playground to encourage proper neural and brain development.
Sierra Leone experiences a monsoon season which currently keeps the children indoors for half the year. A large building will be constructed to act as a gymnasium, church, and education center for year-round use. Educators will be present on-site, and The Dream Center is partnering with a university in the US as a preparatory school for college-bound children.
Upon turning 17, unadopted children age out of orphan care and must be released. This poses a tremendous issue, especially for their special needs population. In conjunction with the McCauley Foundation, the Dream Center will be able to generously cover the needs of their orphans unable to care for themselves for their lifetime. The aged-out 17-year-olds are invited to participate in the Roots Program. The Roots Program is an opportunity that allows them to learn a trade by working at The Dream Center. There they will continue their education while learning life skills to ease their transition into society. 80+ nationals will be gainfully employed, and over 100 children will be cared for!
